I turned 50 in November 2015. That was a difficult one as I still feel and live like I’m 21. I love a good drink and fattening food just like many of you out there.
That milestone really got me thinking, however. I’m not getting any younger and if I want to get older and continue enjoying life to the full, I had better do something about my lifestyle. I’ve already been going to the gym at least five days every week with my son Joe for the past two years. I also ride my bike a lot, weather permitting. So I do have a good head start. I’ve decided to use that to ensure I lose 50 pounds by June 2016.
If I succeed you’ll know it.
If I fail, you’ll no doubt know it too.
If I succeed, you’ll know it. If I fail, you’ll no doubt know it too. The proof will be in the before and after photos I post along the way. Just in case you’re interested, I got on my scale this morning and was whopping 230lbs and I wasn’t happy about it.
Why Am I’m Losing 50 Pounds by June?
That sounds like one heck of a lot of weight and if that were my only goal, I’d probably fail. I also have a few smaller goals along the way. In June, I’ll be cycling the 140 mile Coast to Coast ride with a group of friends. I might even be able to do it now but I would be the one at the back breathing heavily and dreading every up hill climb. I want to be one of those at the front of the pack enjoying the beautiful scenery.
What Are My Other Goals?
I want to achieve healthy weight loss throughout the next six months. I won’t do this by dieting. I like food too much. But I will be developing new recipes that I promise will be full of flavour while not being bad for you.
In order to lose the 50lbs I need to drop just over eight pounds per month. That’s very doable. I’ll be sure to let you know how I’m getting on and would love to hear from you about how you’re doing with your fitness goals. One reason I am doing this so publicly is so that we can all cheer each other on.
My first goal after losing eight pounds per month is to be under 200lbs by the end of March when I go to a reunion with friends back in California. I know… that is more than eight pounds per month. I would be very happy to be 206lbs by then but you never know.
What About All The Recipes?
I already have a massive library of full fat recipes on my blog for those of you who can’t be bothered with or don’t need to worry about the weight loss thing. I’ll also be posting a few new full fat recipes over the coming months as life doesn’t need to end just because you’re cutting back. I just won’t pile my plate quite as high. 🙂
That said, I think you are going to love the new healthy recipes I’ve developed over the past couple of months. We’re talking recipes that are low in (or without) saturated and trans fats. The recipes I post will be made to fill you up and keep you satisfied while being full of the veggies, lentils, grains, nuts, seafood and low fat meat that make up a healthy diet.
I won’t be counting the calories but I will ensure that each meal is full of the ingredients we all know we should be eating and will lack those we shouldn’t. Although I won’t be able to offer you daily menu plans for some time, you will be able to pick and choose from my individual recipes and I hope you enjoy them.
So What’s Next?
Whether you are hoping to lose weight and get more fit during 2016 or not, I hope you join me on this journey. I’ll keep you updated on my progress and would love to hear from you too. Good healthy recipes are on the way.
Disclaimer: I am not a nutritionist. Everything I know about healthy eating comes from a lifetime of knowing how I should be eating but ignoring it. 🙂
